Summary:
Brown Bag Lunch Online Presentation with Lori Dengler, Humboldt Earthquake Education Center, Cal Poly Humboldt, and the Redwood Coast Tsunami Work Group: Discuss the impact of the Hunga Tonga volcano eruption.

Full Description:
Learn about when Hunga Tonga volcano erupted in January 2022, producing the largest explosion recorded in instrumental times. It caused two types of tsunamis: one triggered by sea floor deformation and one caused by a pressure pulse in the atmosphere that jumped land masses. The tsunamis were recorded on instruments in Humboldt Bay.

Lori Dengler is an emeritus professor of geology at Cal Poly Humboldt and an expert in tsunami and earthquake hazards. Since retiring in 2015, she continues to work on earthquake and tsunami preparedness efforts on North Coast through the Redwood Coast Tsunami Work Group and nationally as a member of NOAA’s Tsunami Science Technical Advisory Panel.

The Humboldt Earthquake Education Center was established in 1985 to develop earthquake and tsunami preparedness materials. In 1996, it became an integral part of the Redwood Coast Tsunami Work Group - https://rctwg.humboldt.edu/home

The presentation will begin promptly at noon.
