Full Description:
Join the Humboldt Grange #501 and our community partners as we come together to learn, connect, and strengthen our preparedness for coastal hazards in our region.
As in past years, the Humboldt Grange #501 and community members will gather for a technical presentation focused on tsunami preparedness and coastal hazard awareness. This year's program highlights coastal erosion, localized flooding, and an in depth look at the severe January 2026 storms, which brought extremely high tides, strong winds, and significant flooding that affected the King Salmon community and surrounding areas.
Presenters include:
• Ryan Aylward of the National Weather Service – Tsunami Week and the Perfect Storm – What happened in King Salmon
• Laurie Richmond of Cal Poly Humboldt and FLKS Living with Water – Ongoing studies of the communities of Fields Landing and King Salmon, with some “Boots on the Ground” stories of when the ocean inundated the community
• Nick Brown-Crawford of COAD (Community Organizations Active in Disasters) - Demographics of King Salmon and Resiliency and Recovery
Event Schedule:
• Doors open: 5:00 p.m.
• Dinner: 5:30 p.m.
• Presentations begin: 6:15 p.m.
